Robert graduated in tax law and Dutch law from the University of Amsterdam and started his career in 1993 as a tax lawyer for Arthur Andersen in Amsterdam. From 1994 – 1999 he worked as a tax lawyer in Curaçao with Loyens & Volkmaars and PWC. In 1999 he started his career as a banking and finance lawyer at Allen & Overy LLP in Amsterdam and successively for ING Bank and LeasePlan Corporation as senior legal counsel in the areas of structured finance, corporate finance and capital markets.
Robert returned to Curaçao in 2012 and became a senior associate at HBN Law. Robert has a wide expertise in the areas of (project) financing, restructuring, securities and insolvencies. He is furthermore specialized in data protection and regularly advises on (cross) border data protection issues. Due to his tax background Robert also regularly advises on the civil law aspects of tax driven transactions and tax matters such as FATCA.
Born and partly raised in Surinam, Robert serves the firm’s Surinam desk, assisting clients on legal matters concerning Surinam. Robert has published several articles on various legal topics.
